AICC Organized Farmers’ Conference in Lilongwe and Mzuzu

Smallholder farmers in Malawi continued to face market related challenges. As such African Institute of Corporate Citizenship (AICC) organized a farmers’ conferences in Lilongwe and Mzuzu. The meetings were held at Crossroads Hotel and Chatonda Lodge in Lilongwe and Mzuzu respectively. AICC conducted these meetings in order to create platform for stakeholders including farmers, buyers, input suppliers, processors and consumers to discuss and plan for 2018/19 commodity markets.
The conference conducted to support implementation of Malawi’s National Agriculture Investment Plan (NAIP) that has broad program areas on markets, value addition, trade and finance aimed at ensuring that the agricultural sector has profitable markets and reliable source of finances. The conference discussion centered on the projected commodity production trends, prices, yield and collective marketing. Participants also reviewed the previous market seasons, its challenges, possible solutions and way forward for this year marketing season. Through these meetings farmers made market deals for this year’s market season.
Participants were drawn from districts in the central and northern region with different stakeholders such as Farmers Organization Ltd, Export Development Fund and other private sector players.
