Business Action Against Corruption

Text Resizer:

BAAC Malawi was launched in 2005 to serve as a platform for collective engagement by companies in issues relating to corporate governance and the fight against corruption. It has been hosted by the African Institute of Corporate Citizenship (AICC) and it has been supported by 37 member companies and partners such as the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC) and the German Development Corporation, GIZ. It has close links to the public sector through its collaboration with the Anti-Corruption Bureau. The National Anti-Corruption Strategy for Malawi (NACS) also recognizes the BAAC as the platform for private sector involvement in fighting corruption.

In Malawi the BAAC has made significant steps towards building capacity in fighting corruption through initiatives such as:

  • Development of a code of conduct
  • Annual Training Programs of Ethics Officers in Ethics Management
  • Conducting Business Symposiums which offer an opportunity for members to discuss critical issues relating to improving business environment
  • Development of tools such as the Business Code of Conduct and the Integrity Ratings Framework: a tool for measuring an institution level of adherence to the business code of conduct
